DUO AQUA OILS

An 80 colour range of Duo Aqua Oils, offering a wide variety of artistic expression!

Holbein Duo Oils are water soluble but the oil used is identical to that used in traditional oil colours - used with solvent, Duo Oils behave as a normal oil colour. When blended with water alone, Duo Oils dry with a slightly matte finish and in less time than normal oil colours. However Duo Oils will blend with traditional oil colours (although water solubility is lost if the traditional oils exceed more than 30%), and also with gouache, transparent water colour, and acrylic colours (add a few drops of water when blending with acrylics).

Duo Oils are also an ideal medium for colouring cold porcelain - they can be diluted with solvent or water for different effects, they dry more quickly and they can be blended with other colour mediums to create unique finishes (eg. blend with water based metallic and pearl colours to create special effects). Being a water-soluble medium, Duo Oils are easy and very pleasant to use - obtain the finish and texture and brush strokes of oil colours, but eliminate the odour of solvent and have the ease of cleaning up with water! Duo Oils may dry in as little as 24 hours and uniform drying time allows for better planning for over-coating, texturing and correcting. Because it is possible to blend with other mediums, it is possible to alter hues and transparencies - allowing for very delicate effects and finishes.
