Using
the CK LaceMakers :
Use
a 50/50 mixture (50% of each) of Sugarpaste (Rolled
Fondant) and Flowerpaste (Gumpaste), though you may
need to adjust the proportions depending upon the pastes
being used. Experiment to find what works best for
you. The mould should be clean and dry and dusted with
cornflour (cornstarch), though if you use lustre colour,
the lace pieces will have a pearlised finish when they
come out of the mould! (NB. You may find that paste
tends to stick in a new silicone mould, so you should
use it a few times to "get it working")
STEP
1 : Dust both sides (both pieces where they
will come into contact with the paste) of the lace
mould with cornflour. Roll the paste out thinly and
trim to a suitable size to fit over the mould. By
rolling the paste thin, the finished lace will look
more delicate.

STEP
2 : Lay the paste over the mould and with
a finger, press onto the design, so that you can
see the outline clearly.
STEP
3 : Carefully place the other piece of the
mould over the paste to fit the design and then press
firmly to make sure that you get a good impression.

STEP
4 : Holding the top part of the mould in
place, tear away the excess paste.
STEP
5 : Remove the top piece of the mould and
with a rounded palette knife blade carefully neaten
the edges.

STEP
6 : (optional) Where there should be holes
in the lace design, carefully remove some pieces
of paste - this will give a much lighter and more
realistic effect, but it is not necessary to remove
all the pieces.
STEP
7 : Turn the mould over and by lifting at
one side and curling the mould, the paste lace should
fall out onto the work surface.

STEP
8 : Attach the lace pieces to the cake before
they are dry to get them to curve smoothly over rounded
edges. Alternatively, dry the pieces on a flat or
shaped surface and then position on the cake.
